I think you definitely could lose 2-3 pounds average a week all the way to roughly 10-15 pounds from goal. At that point, your weight loss should slow down in the pre-maintenance period.

Honestly at 19 years old, you should not have that much loose skin to worry about if you eat enough healthy fats and protein (not starve your body) and exercise the body (and thereby the skin) as well. The people who have loads of loose skin typically were in severe Calorie deficits all the way down.

Like I said in this video, part of me just says there is better uses for my money ($6-10000) as insurance wouldn’t cover it. That is a sizeable amount for something that few people see, and would largely just be for cosmetic purposes. Being happily married eliminates some of that some self-consciousness too.

I am also somewhat nervous about what it would do for my exercise and running life during recovery. I can take the pain, but if it means no running or playing basketball, what’s the point?

My goal weight is 120 lbs

Have you thought about getting plastic surgery? If so why, and if not, why not? I’m 5’1, 243 lbs, 19 years old, and planning to lose about 2 lbs a week until I reach my goal weight, perhaps slowing the loss down by half a pound or so as I get closer to my goal. In your opinion, is that realistic? Will I have loose skin afterwards? My fat is prety evently distributed over my entire body, perhaps a little bit more around the stomach than anywhere else.

  5. bowulf says:

Yeah, yeah – show me someone who lost 211 pounds without any loose skin.

Perhaps your natural diet is causing these bouts of angst and over-emotionality.

  6. brushfour says:

If you restart your healthy natural diet, along with a resistance program, over time you will see that loose skin tighten up like a drum. You’ll be lean, hard and fit. Your skin and hair and overall appearance will be better as you’ll be taking in foods higher in nutrition. You should have NEVER listened to this Bowulf goofball. He doesn’t know anything…and now at 17 years old you get to suffer the results. At least it’s all reversible so rest easy there and just be smarter from now on.

On a normal diet, you would NOT have encounterd loose skin. You did so because you lost weight..but particularly muscle weight at an alarming rate. In 3 months, you should have only looked to lose about 13-15 lbs of FAT at most. This is the problem with Low Carb diets. PLEASE switch your eating pattern back to a NATURAL balanced diet of foods from all Major food groups. Forget Low Carb…it’s ridiculous and now you’re seeing why. Pick up a weight-training program to build back the lost muscle.

You are extremely young still, and I know the worry. You however have time on your side. Work on dropping the remaining body fat to 8-11% depending on your motivation and exercise, and the skin will shrink back to your appropriate size.

Hi, I am 17 year old and this summer lost 55 pounds in 3 months, with my own diet (it’s stupid, but it’s too late to talk about), and I have not that much loose skin around my belly, actually i don’t know if it’s loose skin, coz it doesn’t hangs (in profile, the lower ab is kinda “fatter” comparing with upper ab), but when I run or jump, it goes up and down. How thick can be that loose skin? I am not that worried, coz I am planning to run and remove that fat, but what if the rest is loose skin?

Thanks:) She lost about 80 lbs a few yrs ago but has gained it back…plus a bit:(
I think this will help motivate her. She needs to loose about 180lbs, so for you to have lost 211 is great.

  11. bowulf says:

I am glad I was able to put her mind at ease. Even losing after 211 pounds, I think it could have been much worse than trying to do it extremely low Calorie. Best of luck to your mom!

my mother is extreemly over weight, and is hopefully loosing it with atkins…she is worried about this and thank you for the video.

  13. bowulf says:

Thank you. Most days I am not bothered at all by it. Like I said in the video, it’s a good reminder of what used to be, and it definitely is not “bad” enough to drive me away from the beach or to cover up with a T-shirt.

I was all prepared for a ‘horror show’. But what I ended up seeing was just some loss skin. Nothing horrifically awful about that. Congratulations on the successful weight loss.

I will say this by the time I reached goal, my heart rate was in the mid 60s bpm. Now after a few years of running, it varies mid day from 48-54 according to the ladies at blood donation center. My hypertension has departed as well to (~100/60) most days.

    There is definitely hope.

  16. brandonmgd says:

Im big, and mine does. But I would find my self feeling it, and then having anxiety about it which only increased my bpm’s.

  17. bowulf says:

I never had heart arrhythmia problems, but my heart had certainly an elevated rate consistently (80+ bpm) and hypertension (135/92). Neither were in the danger categories, but I was certainly out of breath simply by going up a flight of stairs to a meeting.

  18. boxerfan2 says:

when you were 400 pounds did your heart race for no reason?

  19. bowulf says:

Specifically loose skin, no. Core and abdominal muscle workouts will help build the muscle under the skin, so when the fat is lost, you might have definition behind it. It will not cause the skin to tighten though.

  20. momz2gd says:

    Will sit-ups help while losing?

  21. bowulf says:

If it were free and didn’t interfere with running marathons, I’d consider it, but at the time being, I’d rather spend my money now and party now without worrying about outward appearances. As trite as it sounds, the people (my wife) who matter don’t care, and those that would don’t matter. I am certainly not holding myself back from going to the beach, going boating or skiing.

Those no point in losing 211 pounds if you are still keeping yourself in the same insulated shell.

  22. dncviorel says:

Being married to a wonderful lady certainly enables one to be confident in one’s self. If I ever doubt myself, I can always rely on her supporting me. I am very blessed. Thank you for the very kind words.
